The Crouton Generation Archives

Admiral Avenger looks like an approximately 30 year old human male,
standing 6'1" in his bare feet, but more like 6'3" in his Star Fleet
uniform. He has dark brown (almost black) hair, thinning in spots
where he has removed it himself, and a similarly dark Riker beard,
with the occasional blond streak. His eyes are very piercing and
he is very uncomfortable with direct eye contact, though he won't
explain why. Near-sighted and allergic to Retinax (as well as most
forms of plant life and several types of food), he wears glasses
which correct his vision to 20/15, his natural vision. He has an
eagle eye which tends to pull a detail out of a field very quickly.
There are rumors of empathy, telepathy or perhaps even Kunz powers
in his repetorie of hidden talents, but no one really knows for sure
(except perhaps T'Lilith) which is the truth.

For all intensive purposes, he simply seems like a highly emotional,
somewhat flamboyant, leader among humans, but the truth is that he is
a bored alien who needed a change in his life. He was originally
genetically designed by the members of his home planet to closely
appear human, while still retaining many characteristics of the home
species. He was born to human parents on Earth in the year 1969 after
one of the many "UFO abduction" cases reported during that time period.
At the age of 18, he was removed from Earth when another of the race's
genetic constructs went on a murderous rampage in a small town in the
Pacific Northwest. This also saved him from the effects of the Eugenics
Wars. He returned to the home planet, where he lived for 200 years
before becoming so bored with the place that he demanded his return
to Earth.

Due to time dilation during his travels, in the early 25th Century
Avenger is only around 250 years old, still rather young for his race.
His 250 years show a great amount of maturity around humans, but at
the same time, he is only a young adult and this tends to show in his
flamboyance and silliness in the face of danger. He likes to adorn
his Admiral's uniform with interesting additions, like a black opera
cape or a Minnesota Twins baseball cap, to give him an air of individuality.
Star Fleet officers who have met Avenger have noted how much he prides
his individuality and also how much he won't let people forget it. He
entered Star Fleet Academy about 30 years ago and was a top student,
spending much of his time studying up on the 300+ years of Federation
History he missed in his absence. After several years serving as science
officer on a variety of vessels, he began a four-year tour as captain of
the _Galaxy_ class _USS Christopher Pike_, which played a key role in
the Borg Dilemma. During the Battle of Regulus, when cornered by three
Borg vessels, he came up with a brilliant, but completely off-the-wall,
tactical response that won the battle and saved both his ship and the
planet below. The tactic, which has become known popularly as Avenger's
Revenge, is now required reading at Star Fleet Academy (where nobody has
yet been able to figure out why it worked) and led to accolades, both from
Star Fleet Command and from the Regulan government. He was a little
embarrassed about all the attention, but it began his long-standing
reputation as a specialist on the Borg.

In recent years, Avenger has settled down a little after several serious
incidents, which have toned down his flamboyance somewhat and occasionally
are the root of some depression. On stardate 95677, Avenger's arch-enemy,
Bjorn of Borg, surprised Avenger in a battle which resulted in the
believed destruction of the _Pike_. As it turns out, Bjorn was able to
assimilate the stardrive section, which after a recent encounter (see
"A Love for Tennis") now serves as a floating museum outside Starbase
LMC1 in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Moving up quickly through the Admiral
ranks, mostly on his reputation with the Borg, Avenger has served as the
Star Fleet Commander, but is now quite content (and forceful) about
remaining in charge of exploration efforts in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
On Stardate 102154, he married Admiral T'Lilith, a top-ranking Star Fleet
Medical Officer and child of two worlds that he met during his earlier
tour as First Officer of the _Pike_ and later courted at Star Fleet
Headquarters as a junior Admiral. (For more information on T'Lilith,
see her separate description.)

Avenger is competent and is slowly becoming a master of the art of
common sense, but he is also very absent-minded, and in more recent years
very neurotic. The loss of the _Pike_ began a long-running hair-pulling
habit which has left him bald in spots. He tries to laugh this off
and even gave his transport, the _USS Rampage_, the motto "To baldly
go where no one has gone before...", but he realizes this is a serious
neurotic addiction that must someday be cured. He loves T'Lilith implicitly
and tends to be a bit chivalristic about protecting her from physical harm,
although she is a much more competent warrior than he. While he sometimes
regrets giving up starship command for the Admiralty, he thinks he has found
a niche he likes (in the LMC) and is fighting hard to keep it as his own.

Admiral Avenger is old friends with several ST:TCG characters because he
has served with many of them at one time or another. For instance, a
young ensign Kabeta was under his command on board the _USS Dublin_.
His long-time first officer, and still a first officer, John Heins served
with him for much of his career and they have, in some ways, a James T.
Kirk - Gary Mitchell friendship (with a lot more baseball and very little
"skirt-chasing"). Avenger is a die-hard Minnesota Twins fan and plays
out a fantasy baseball team against those of Captain Chow and Commander
Heins each year. So far, Heins and Avenger are running about even on
league titles, while Chow has commanded only one.
