From bryant@husc.harvard.edu Fri May 31 15:45:27 1991 Date: Fri, 31 May 91 17:44:04 -0400 From: bryant@husc.harvard.edu (Katherine 'Kabeta' Bryant) Message-Id: <9105312144.aa24901@husc9> To: zecca@tramp Subject: tcg stuff Cc: reidj@tramp Status: R I meant to mention this earlier, but it slipped my mind. There was the suggestion made that Kabeta worked on shields and things like that during the Borg Dilemma. I'm not altogether sure I like that... I don't really see her as being particularly a technical whiz. If you look at her career, she's been in communications and science mostly before command. And her interests lie more in history than in the technical fields. Still, whatever works works. Here's a little sort of background info on Kabeta. I don't know about you guys, but it makes it easier for me to write about characters when I know enough about them to have a strong mental image. Physically: Kabeta is tall -- somewhere in the vicinity of 5'10" (whatever that is in meters). She has shoulder-length fair hair (a couple of shades lighter than mine), and wears it pretty much straight. The most striking feature of her face is her eyes, which are a deep bright blue with gold flecks. When she is angry or upset, and particularly when she is trying to avoid showing it, her eyes will become sort of a steel blue; when she is happy or excited, the gold becomes more prominent. She is reasonably slender -- i.e., she's in good shape but, like me, is not particularly small of build. She carries herself tall, taking full advantage of her height. Otherwise: Kabeta tends to be pacifistic, preferring not to use force unless there is no alternative. (At this point, she has few qualms about killing Lucky Charms, given their implacability, but she prefers to stun Ranchers if she can, rather than kill them.) She prides herself on being calm, especially while in command, but she does not altogether hide her emotions. She has a strong sense of pride in her ship and her crew, and it is largely because of this that she puts up with the rather bizarre antics that the _Heisenberg_ crew is known for. She tolerates, and even enjoys, the weirdnesses of her crew, but when she gives a direct order, she expects it to be obeyed. I think, from what one or two of the other _Heisenberg_ folks have written in bios and episodes, that she enjoys quite a bit of respect from her crew. Her past is a sensitive question with her. She did her best to ignore it for many years, but is gradually coming to terms with it. She has lost most of those who she was close to -- her adoptive parents, a fiance (quite some time ago), and all three of her siblings. This is, perhaps, why she has been as secretive as she has about that past; she does not want to have those painful encounters out in the open. At the time of the Borg Dilemma, she would have still been in the avoiding-it stage, and actually quite happy that way. She learned Standard at the Academy. For the first several years, of course, she spoke with a very pronounced accent (rather like Russian); by the time of the Borg Dilemma it would have softened quite a bit, but still be noticeable. By TCG "now" (i.e. late 3rd season), the accent is almost entirely gone. It still colors her speech just a little, becoming more noticeable if she is tired or distracted or upset. Despite her secrecy and, to a certain extent, her reluctance to become too close to anyone, she is a friendly, outgoing person, not above the occasional flirt [ TCG Archives | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | TSG | TPG | Misc | Begin | End ] |
