The Crouton Generation Archives

From: hassell (Christopher Hassell)
Subject: ST:TCG let's get some stuff straight too:
For those who are wondering..... there are two realms the Croutonprize must
deal with: Fizzikspace and Cyberspace
You all thougt that it was the same as ST:TNG physics... didn't ya!!
Well... since we are 500 years later... the world has realized that the realm
of normal fizzix interfaces with another realm that exists once one has
perfected and enabled computers to be connected in larger and larger masses:
To show those which are more often found in the Cyberspace:
The Queue: the nasty omnipotent being which warps cybertime and
makes things seemmmm tooo taaaakkkkeee fooorrreevverrrr
Dave Mercer: someone who actually is enveloped in cyberspacial
reality, but appears only as a stowaway on the
enterprise
Tom Martino: constantly comes in to check out the connections
and stuff so he can broadcast in fizzikspace, also keeps
a RandNum (R) reactor which spews out the random
numbers he uses for his reporting facts.
Bo Jackson: that is how he knows "*" of course :->
_ranch _dresinge: the original Ranch Dresinge's computer
counterpart, programmed by the evil mind of Ranch
himself. (p.s. Ranch was the founder of Hidden Valley
Empire... but has moved away because of his own greed)
Dave: he keeps his secret Top-Ten-list-mine only in his
cyberspacial palace/fort before they are exported at
great cost to Fizzikspace
For those who wonder which crew members actually have studied and
actually employ forces of and travel in cyberspace:
Ad. Avenger is known to deal somewhat well with cyberspace,
but only in that he can usually move and search for
his information at large speeds [80wpm], otherwise, he
uses it only to communicate with Ad. Coulter.
His specialty is fizzikspace, however, and he'd rather
not deal with the wierdness of unreality
Capt. Croutons himself is known to be quite agile and well
understood in cyberspace, but at times he does appear
to become trapped and or afflicted, and is unable to
perform general mental functions without using
cyberspacial reactions first... thus reducing his
existance in his declared forte' : fizzikspace.
The captain is also afflicted at times with a disease
known as Hypoconnyism, and searches through cyberspace
at times, looking in for some lost cure.
Lt. Frechette actually has acheived a large understanding of
cyberspacial principles and will meditate upon them
for long periods of time, and actually live with a
growing cult known as the MUDdites which, though
violent and generally obnoxious, (they kill each other
constantly) is a strange and generally wierd existance
in cyberspace.
Lt. Frechette is involved with them, but doesn't
generally follow their principles, for he enjoys
specifically a large amount of fizzixspace every once
and a while
The best analogy to his existance there is a Netspace
Cowboy, as you may see in his existential description,
if you meet him there. (note... he sometimes reverts
to a more cyberspacial dialect known as Fonetic and it
usually kills the brain cells of those left in its path)
Lt. Zortyl Wankoid is extremely well versed in cyberspacial
principles, as he was a major researcher after he left
Yoyoqop and went to the U. of Tranalikizine
He has added alot to the field, though most of it only
manifests in his translated works, because, of course,
he speaks Wankoidian, which is only understandible to
his native kind, and not even then much because it has
altered so quickly over time.
He is on board the Croutonprize studying the warping
of the Cyberspace as Zen performs certain tasks, as
well as generally trying to perfect the kumquat/quava
melagne, a delicacy on Yoyoboq (because of the names
of course).
He has beachfront property which converts to a mountain
cabin in Cyberspace, and he spends alot of time
there... actually just about all time... actually he
hasn't come out for quite a while, now.
Zen: Of course, Zen is a computer and is therefore made IN
cyberspace almost entirely. He does, however,
frequently voyage outside to the real world and doesn't
come back until the ship starts to veer into the
nearest planet.
For those less familiar with Cyberspace: A description is in order
Cyberspace is the world where matter is information except for
a few small reactions which affect everything:
Cybermatter can be divided and gathered but other
reactions follow.
Cybermatter can be destroyed, and several particles
can collide, collapsing down to a single
half-bit (a cyberspacial particle), but that
can never be destroyed itself, only collided
further.
When this occurs, it produces an effect called
"chaos", which is analogue to energy in
cyberspace.
From chaos, when crystallized properly around at least
one pair of particles, comes more cybermatter,
but most times this matter is unstable and
immediately is evaporated again, unless it is
able to be protected from too much chaos....
or, in overly chaotic environments, by
squeezing chaos out of it continuously, like a
refigerator does with heat.
Cpt. Croutons and Zortyl Wankoid are even now figuring
out a decent Cyberspace-drive to quickly get around,
and also cyberspacial weapons are under study.
As for normal analogs to the things you hear about in
the show:
Memory is like a data-refigerator/protector.
Transmission is simply the protected movement
of cybermatter (using a car or
something)
A "process" is chunk of cybermatter, or an
object.
A network is a set of gates between bunches of
objects, like stars and interspace routes
Now that I've spoken enough wankoidian to fill several bookshelves iwth
unreadible material.... I feel like I've accomplished something.
