From our new Croutonizer chief...

Subject: MEMO -- IMPORTANT

To all U.S.S. Heisenberg Crew:

In preparing for my new duties, I have been doing some standard checks
on the Croutonizers. It appears that the recent accident with the wiring
has temporarily placed the Croutonizers out of service. At this moment it
is not clear precisely what the problem is, but it appears that the problem
is not in the de-croutonizing stage but in re-croutonization. The current
hypothesis is that the accident has caused our Warp-Adjustment Dimensional
Stabilizer (WADS) to lose its hyper-gyroscopic setting, thus causing the
re-focusing of the croutonizing mechanism to fall slightly outside of the
ship's space-time plane in the continuum. Current tests are being run with
Star Fleet Standard Type #AF-002403-GREP-42 Breadcrumbs, and I should have
the Croutonizers back on-line by Monday morning at the latest. I will keep
the crew informed as technical reports come in.

PROGRESS REPORT:

Diagnostic reports submitted by Mr. Aoki have suggested that the hyper-gyro-
scopic calibrator has been damaged by a power surge. Notes that this does
not rule out additional damage to the hyper-gyroscope itself.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES:

Standard repairs on the calibrators could require several days. In case of
a need for emergency use of the croutonizers, I have set up a temporary
bypass of the hyper-gyroscopic calibrator by using a highly unorthodox
procedure. Routing power from the XY-425 junction away from the calibrator
to a Vulcan Fleet Standard R2-D2-C3PO Holistic Ultra-Sensorial Calibrator,
Type 9 (HUSC9), I have connected the hyper-gyroscope using local dimensional
settings.

PROGNOSIS:

It is possible to use the croutonizers on an emergency basis. However, the
HUSC9 settings must be manually adjusted after any travel at velocity
greater than Warp 3.5 . In addition, preliminary investigation has begun
into potential damage to the gyroscopic system itself, but these will be
inconclusive for some time. Until full repairs can be made to the calibrator
and information is available on the hyper-gyroscopic system, it is UNSAFE for
any humanoid personnel to make use of the Croutonizers. REPEAT: only non-
humanoid personnel not subject to dimensional fluctuations and inorganic
materials (i.e., equipment and parts) may use the Croutonizers pending further
repairs and diagnostics. Incoming equipment and personnel are under similar
restrictions.

Ho, Quarkz!

Listen, I don't have time to read all 79 messages, so i have no idea
what everyone is saying about the war. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, early,
and I'll be back the 26th. Until then, everybody please take care. My
thoughts will be with you.

STATUS REPORT:

HUSC9 System has been dismantled, as the hyper-gyroscopic calibrator
has been appropriately repaired. While final diagnostics are not yet in,
it appears that the Croutonizers are fully operational. Still, there are
some questions as to subtle and permanent changes which may have been
incorporated into the Croutonizer settings. Full status report when I return.

In the meantime, Star Fleet Command has requested that I take a brief
sojourn in order to confer with them on a matter of the highest importance.
I would like to schedule a tentative briefing for after I return in two
weeks for all crew members with any knowledge of psionics. More later.
